Richard Kessler, Esq.

In 1979, Mr. Kessler received his bachelor of arts degree, summa cum laude, from Ohio University and then his juris doctorate from University of Michigan Law School in 1982. Before opening his immigration law firm—the Law Office of Richard Kessler, P.C.—in 1987, Mr. Kessler had been a staff attorney at the Michigan Migrant Legal Assistant Project since 1982.  Mr. Kessler is a member of the American Immigration Lawyers Association, the National Lawyers Guild Immigration Project, the director of the Hispanic Center of Western Michigan, and past chair of the Michigan Migrant Legal Assistance Project (MMLAP). Michigan Coalition for Immigrant Rights and Protection Incorporation, Participated in lawyers Human Rights delegation to El Salvador and Nicuragua during the 1980s and 1990s.

Gary N. Gershon, Esq.

Mr. Gershon attended the University of Michigan while pursuing his bachelor's degree and received his bachelor of arts degree and his master of arts degree from Central Michigan University and then his juris doctorate from the University of California, Hastings College of Law in 1973.  Mr. Gershon is admitted to the bar in Michigan and California.  Before joining Michigan’s  premier progressive immigration law firm—the Law Office of Richard Kessler, P.C.—in 2003, Mr. Gershon had been an appellate law clerk, attorney with Legal Aid of Western Michigan from 1975-1984, executive director of the Michigan Migrant Legal Assistance Project (MMLAP) from 1984-2000, and in private practice assisting migrant workers, including pursuing fair labor claims from 2000-2003.  Mr. Gershon is the chair of the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) Western Michigan Lawyers Committee, a director of the Fair Housing Center of Greater Grand Rapids, and a recent democratic candidate for Kent County Commissioner and is on Western Detroit Federal Bar Association Executive Comittee, chairing the Committee for the Poor and Unrepresented in Federal Court. In certifying a class action, a federal judge said of Gary's experience, particularly in federal class actions and agricultural labor that it was "unique...and truly significant." Gary is also an ICLE-trained and circuit-approved mediator.
